These works are an extension of my interest in early automata and decorative porcelains. They are elaborately mechanical re-stagings of age-old myths and shop-worn schticks. While deliberately amusing and baroque, they transmit an underlying anxiety about both acculturation and embodiment.


Wolf Mother (detail) 2000, 4’ x 14” x 10”, found toys, cast Aqua-Resin, brass, wood, motor, fishing line. As wolf’s head moves slowly down, tongue comes out to lick baby’s butt, as wolf head rises, tongue retracts.
